1. Communications Manager, West Africa – Lagos
Google Nigeria’s primary goal is to make the Internet an integral part of everyday life for people in the region. We are currently focused on establishing partnerships around three key areas including: lowering Internet access barriers, fostering relevant online content and supporting a sustainable Internet ecosystem of products and product developers in Nigeria.

This position can be based in Lagos, Nigeria or Accra, Ghana.
The area: Global Communications and Public Affairs

It’s our job to help inform and educate users, advertisers, partners and opinion leaders about the benefits of Google’s products, our distinctive company culture/values, and our approach to the big public policy issues of the day. We are looking for quick-witted, entrepreneurial and intellectually curious people to join the team. To succeed here, you’ll need to be able to combine creativity with the organizational skills to manage numerous different projects to tight deadlines simultaneously, as well as enjoy pitching to all kinds of journalists, bloggers and commentators (we find it hard too!). Things happen quickly at Google and to get stuff done here you need to be an enthusiastic team player – a self-starter who can work cross-functionally and isn’t frightened to take risks or try out new ways of doing things.

THE ROLE: Communications Manager, West Africa
As a member of the Global Communications & Public Affairs team in West Africa:
You will work cross-functionally to help communicate with journalists and other thought leaders in West Africa; devise specific communications materials and campaigns based on understanding of journalists’ interests; engage in face-to-face meetings with commentators and other opinion formers; develop print and web-based material supporting these campaigns; and counter misinformation that might interfere with our business and ability to serve our users.
We are looking for great communicators who can understand complex issues and explain them in person and also via well written, simple blog posts, FAQs, video scripts and more.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Assist with all communications activities for Google in West Africa (Nigeria, Ghana and Senegal)
-Represent Google as a company spokesperson for a wide variety of media and blogger inquiries
-Collaborate with Google engineering, product, sales and marketing teams to create compelling communications strategies that illustrate the functionality and key benefits of our consumer and advertising products
-Develop close, productive relationships with journalists, bloggers, product reviewers and our key partners in West Africa
-Develop written materials, including story pitches, messaging guidelines, press releases, Q&As, presentations and speeches
-Train and provide advice to company officials for press conferences, media interviews and trade presentations
REQUIREMENTS:
-Bachelors degree or equivalent with a strong academic record.
-Professional experience in fast-paced business, media or non-profit environment, ideally in West Africa
-Excellent communication skills – verbal and written
-Ability to think, plan, and execute on multiple projects simultaneously in an organized fashion
-Demonstrated ability to work calmly and maintain good judgment in fast-paced, high-stress environments, as well as ability to escalate appropriately
-Ability to work with colleagues in different countries and appreciate cultural differences
-Fluency in English and proficient in French, both verbal and written

2. New Business Development Manager, West Africa – Lagos
This position is based in Lagos, Nigeria.
The area: Business Development

The New Business Development group works with Product, Engineering and other teams on new product incubation and exploratory efforts, technology and meta-data licensing, strategic partnerships, urgent special projects, and alternative distribution for existing and new business initiatives. Our team consists of creative, entrepreneurial, highly organized leaders, well versed in a broad range of technologies, who can spot opportunities, evaluate inbound inquiries, build partnerships, collaborate with many internal functional groups globally, and negotiate and close business deals.
THE ROLE: New Business Development Manager, West Africa

New Business Development Managers are self-starters who will work closely with the Google Product team on new initiatives and key strategic relationships. They are recognized experts within their business group and external partners. They make progress with ambiguity, work in challenging environments and pro- actively communicate and manage project status to achieve success. In this position, you will lead and initiate cross-functional company-wide projects and pro-actively seek out initiatives to improve the Google business in Africa.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Provide African thought leadership to New Business Development team.
-Guide and manage cross functional team members on a variety of products and deal types.
-Lead and own high impact, high priority and immediate projects across West Africa.
-Expand and lead entrepreneurial opportunities. In addition to sourcing high priority, high impact deals that align with the company and regional strategy.
-Lead and initiate cross-functional African-wide initiatives.
-Influence business strategies based on expertise and understanding of industry landscape, trends and competitors.
REQUIREMENTS:
BA/BS degree or equivalent (MBA preferred).
-Significant African experience, including experience in business development, partner management, product management or product marketing in industries relevant to Google.
-Experience in identifying partners, analyzing and facilitating complex deal structures with a proven track record of deal negotiation and execution.
-In-depth experience operating within cross-functional teams (product management, implementation, legal, finance, marketing, etc.).
-Possess high level of comfort escalating and presenting key deal issues to Google senior management when appropriate; solution-oriented mind-set a must.
-Ability to manage several time-sensitive project/deals at once in a fast-paced environment with minimal direction.
-Fluent in English, French (preferred) and other native African language(preferred).
